Peugeot 208 and e-208 updated for 2022

Peugeot has detailed another batch of updates for the 2022 model year of its 208 and e-208 superminis, following on from last month’s announcement of range-boosting tweaks for the EV version.
The Volkswagen Polo rival’s range structure has been streamlined, meaning both the combustion-engined 208 and electric e-208 are available in four trim levels: active Premium, allure Premium, GT and GT Premium. Peugeot says “customer preferences for higher-trim vehicles” has resulted in the entry-level allure models being dropped.

Engine choices have been streamlined, too, with the 1.5-litre diesel engine no longer offered in flagship GT premium form. The 99bhp 1.2-litre petrol is now manual-only in GT premium trim, too, with the eight-speed automatic gearbox only offered on the more powerful 128bhp model.

Visually, changes are more minor. Peugeot has added diamond Black door mirror covers to active premium and allure premium models for “a more distinctive sportier look”. The two trim levels now also feature class A+ tyres, reducing rolling resistance for improved efficiency.
The mild revisions come after an update to the e-208 electric supermini which is claimed to unlock as much as 15 miles of extra range. The inclusion of an interior humidity sensor and a more efficient heat pump helps cool and heat the cabin more efficiently, while a new gearbox ratio optimises range at higher speeds.
